Objectives

1) Development of mass spectrometric methods combined with chemometrics in a non-target approach for identification of hitherto unknown PFASs in humans and human exposure media using ultra-high resolution Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) mass spectrometry and in-source fragmentation flagging.

2) Elucidation of the structure of hitherto unidentified PFASs.

3) Targeted method development for these PFASs and application of the methods in human exposure monitoring. Assessment of external and internal human exposure to emerging and novel PFASs.

Planned secondment(s):

SU (M14, 4w) for training on total organic fluorine analysis using combustion IC and total oxidizable precursor analysis.

Chiron (M31, 12w) for training in production of reference standards.

Visit planned to a wastewater treatment facility (Svenskt Vatten) (M12 following ATC3).

ESR1 will also assist in the site visit to UFZ by all ESRs following ATC6 (M24).
